"Roughly 2.4 million people in California saw their electricity shut off Wednesday as utility PG&E looks to stem the state’s wildfires. The company, which filed for bankruptcy protection after its equipment ignited fires, said it was extending a “public safety power shutoff” in the largest precautionary outage it has ever taken. Lines will not be restored until winds reside, meaning the shutoff could last days, according to Reuters. As California gets warmer and drier, the blackouts could become more common, says Bloomberg".
