Dick’s Sporting Goods destroyed $5 million worth of military-style, semiautomatic rifles last year after removing them from shelves and is reviewing whether it will keep selling guns at any of its stores. CEO Ed Stack says he had several options for disposing of the weapons — including sending them back to manufacturers for a refund of between 80% and 85% — but instead chose to turn them into scrap metal to keep them off the streets. Dick’s stopped selling the military-style rifles in April 2018, two months after the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.
